Yesterday, I met my friend who had been a long time enemy of mine. First, he was a stranger, then a friend and finally a jealous enemy. Presently, he is a friend. Meanwhile he has toggled between a 'critic' and a 'close friend'. I don't know for how long he would remain a friend!
However, he gave me some very valuable and life-changing suggestions -
- Words and Time are like cash. Spend them very carefully and smartly.
- Be Simple. Be yourself.
- Don't be shy. Socialise and be frank. Shed off your inhibitions.
- Life is all about sharing, adaptation and adjustment.
- Don't be a critic 24x7. Don't over analyse. Nobody is perfect. Enjoy and appreciate the Imperfection.
- Empathise with others, atleast; if you can't sympathise. Never mock others.
- Accept others in order to be Accepted.
- Don't be a Baba. Don't preach. Try to be a good listener.
- Forget the past. Promise me that you would live in the present because you have infinite number of things to preserve. (I promised him.)
And in order to retaliate, I also gave him some suggestions to prove my worth (most of it was borrowed from miscellaneous sources) -
1. Life is not Maths but Political Science. Don't be a dirty politician, but a nice one who strives for one's rights.
2. Just do it. Don't think too much. Don't compare or expect.
3. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
4. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
5. Believe in whatever you do and work harder until you accomplish it.
Finally, we exchanged apologies for our past deeds and my 'friend' or 'would-be-enemy' departed. Next time, I will give him 60 suggestions to take the lead.
Hence, I'm reading a book on Idioms and Phrases; it is good for competitions, too!
